Benzoic Acid
It occurs naturally in blueberries, resins and balsams such as Benjuí, Tolú and Peru. It is also obtained by chemical synthesis, by the alkylation of benzene with methyl halide in the presence of aluminum chloride and oxidation with potassium permanganate in an alkaline medium. It is soluble in alcohol, ether and chloroform.
